THORNY GREED By Harikrishnan

porcupine[1]

Nobody ever makes friends with a porcupine. Half the reason is obvious – its thorns. The other half of the reason is unknown to us, but all insects and animals know very well of – the porcupine’s greed. Once a cricket tried to make friends with a porcupine. Here is what happened: –

The cricket met the porcupine

Just outside a golden shrine.

There they found a jug of wine,

Porcupine said, “The wine is mine!”

The cricket therefore couldn’t agree,

They stared at the wine greedily.

How friendly and nice they were,

Before they found the wine down there.

It’s quite a bit of a nasty scare,

How greed can’t get you anywhere.

From being each other’s greatest friend,

They wound up enemies in the end.
